Champion

Albert R. (Mac) Mekeel, 74, of 34020 Lamb Road, died Thursday, September 28, 2017 at his home in Champion.

Albert was born September 29, 1942 in West Pittston, PA., the son of the late Walter and Evelyn (Dymond) Mekeel.  He married Sherry L. Fuhrken on April 25, 2004 at Mount Pocono, PA.

He served in the Coast Guard from 1960 until 1980, retiring with the rank of Quartermaster Chief Petty Officer.  Following his retirement, he was employed by Federal Government at the Toby Hanna Army Depot in Pennsylvania as a security guard. The couple moved to Champion in 2005.

He was a member of the Thousand Yard Club in Williamsport, PA which was a long distance shooting club.

He is survived by his wife: Sherry L. Mekeel of Champion, one daughter: Elizabeth Scott of California; 2 step daughters, Lisa Swartz of Allentown, PA; Jill Bonagura of Hawley, PA and a step son, Patrick Norman of Marshalls Creek, PA; his adopted north country son and daughter, Brian and Sarah Sech of Champion, 9 Grandchildren; a sister: Rita Milewski of West Pittston, PA and nieces and nephews. A brother, Walter Mekeel died previously.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 3 at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home in Carthage.  Burial with military honors will be in Hillside Cemetery, Champion. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 5-7pm at the funeral home.
