Obituary

Funeral services for Mrs. Herbert T. (Alice Schreck) Burrell, who died Monday evening at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse, NY, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 4, 2017, at St. James Catholic Church, Carthage, NY, Rev. Thomas Higman, officiating. Friends are invited to visit at the family home, 219 S. Clinton Street, Carthage, NY, Friday at their convenience.

Alice was stricken Sunday evening at the home of her daughter, Lori Nettles, and was taken to Carthage Area Hospital and later transferred to St. Joseph's.

Alice was born in Deferiet, NY, January 20, 1925, a daughter of the late Joseph E and Anna Kogut Schreck. She attended Herrings Grade School and graduated from Augustinian Academy, Carthage, NY. On January 9, 1943, she married Herbert T. Burrell at St. James Church. Mr. Burrell died June 4, 2000.

Mrs. Burrell retired after serving many years as payroll clerk at Carthage Area Hospital. She had previously been employed as the cafeteria manager for Augustinian Academy and for many years as a spiral tape machine operator for St. Regis Paper Company. While she enjoyed crocheting and knitting in her earlier years, she eventually developed a passion for TV game shows and FOX News.

She is survived by three daughters, Kathryn B. Smith and her companion, William Reynolds, Mrs. Timothy (Lori A.) Nettles, both of Carthage, Mrs. John (Lisa M.) Alexander, Warrensburg; five grandsons, James (Rosalind) Smith, Broomfield, CO, Gregory (Julie) Smith, Longmont, CO, Jeffrey (Susan) Smith, Sparta, NJ, Jonathan Alexander, Davenport, IA, and David (Kathryn) Alexander, Warrensburg; three granddaughters, Alice Ann (Matthew) Casey, West Point, MIchelle Nettles, Carthage, and Ashley Alexander, and her fiance, Aries Bolton, Warrensburg: four great grandsons, Jeran Smith, Broomfield, CO, Dylan Banks, Denver, CO, Benjamin Thomas and Maximus John Bolton, Warrensburg, and two great granddaughters, Sydney Smith, Broomfield, CO, and Piper Alexander, Warrensburg, and one sister, Mrs. Carlyle (Mary) Holliday, Carthage, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her husband, Alice is predeceased by a daughter, Carol Ann, who died November 24, 1962, of a rare blood disease; three sisters, Theresa Wojtowicz, Helen Archer and Dorothy Smith; and two brothers Joseph F Schreck and John E Schreck.

Memorial contributions may be made to St James Catholic Church or Augustinian Academy, both of Carthage, NY. Arrangements are with the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home.
