Obituary

Carthage - Amelia Mushtare, 90, of 222 State St. Apt. # 801, died Friday, March 27, 2015, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse after a lengthy complication from a heart procedure.

Amelia was born in Carthage on February 4, 1925, the daughter of the late Angelo and Emmanuella Icovillo Genito of Apice, Italy. She attended school in Carthage. She married Clarence E. (Ike) Mushtare on April 11, 1942 at St. Rita's Church in Deferiet with the Rev. James A. Fix officiating. Mr. Mushtare, a longtime employee of the St. Regis Paper Company died on April 29, 1992, just after celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Amelia worked at Gilbert's Laundry in Carthage and Faichney's Thermometer Manufacturer in Watertown before spending her years as a wife and mother. She was a very strong and inspirational person who survived bouts with cancer 6 times.

She was a member of St. James Church in Carthage.

She is survived by her two daughters: Gail A. Livingston of Little Elm, TX and Mrs. Ray (Dawn M.) Nolan of Williamsburg, VA, three sons: David C. (Patty) Mushtare of Watertown, Richard J. (Nancy) Mushtare of Carthage and Ronnie L. Mushtare of Watertown, 9 Grandchildren and 15 Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and a dear close friend of many years, Marlene Wells. She is predeceased by an infant daughter, Barbara who died in September of 1946, 4 sisters, Delores Genito, Rose Olsgard, Mary Bryant and Madaline Vallelunga and 3 brothers, Joseph, Louis and Dewey Genito.


Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM at St. James Catholic Church with her nephew, Rev. Joseph A. Genito, OSA officiating. Spring burial will be in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home will be on Sunday from 2-5pm.
