Obituary

West Carthage - Andrew W. Picco, 90, of 32 High St., died Tuesday, February 5, 2013, in the Carthage Area Hospital where he has been a patient for a month.

Mr. Picco was born in Carthage on August 14, 1922, the son of the late Frank and Maria Condino Pike. He served with the CCC's after his education and worked near Port Byron and the Montezuma Swamp in Central New York. He served in the Army during World War II for 2 years. He married the former Laura P. Geer on June 21, 1952 at St. James Church in Carthage. Andrew worked for the New York Central Railroad for 10 years before joining the St. Regis Paper Company in Deferiet. He worked mainly in the yard for 32 years, retiring in 1985.

He was a member of St. James Church and the Knights of Columbus Council # 291 of Carthage.

He leaves his wife, Laura P. of West Carthage, two daughters: Eva M. and Thomas Carroll of Rochester and Debra A. Picco-Clyde of Phoenix, AZ, one son: Frank D. Picco of Carthage, 5 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren, 2 brothers: Albert and James Pike, both of Carthage and several nieces and nephews. 2 brothers, Louis and Augustine Pike and 4 sisters Angie Noftsier, Josephine Oakes and 2 infant sisters both named Rose Pike died previous.


In keeping with his wishes the body has been donated to the Upstate Medical University for medical research. There will be no calling hours or funeral. Arrangements are with the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home.
