Anthony J. "Papa" Genito, Jr., 68, of Alexandria St. Carthage, passed away on Friday, December 15,2023 at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse.
Tony was born November 29,1955 in Carthage, the son of the late Anthony J. and Helen V. (Tabolt) Genito Sr. He was a 1974 graduate of Carthage Central High School. He served four years in the US Navy from 1975 until 1979. He married the former Deanna Swem on April 9, 1983, at St. James Church in Carthage with Rev. James T. Spenard officiating. Tony worked for 42 years as a civilian employee on Fort Drum where he was employed as a HVAC mechanic. He retired in 2017.
Tony and Deanna loved spending time at their camp on Pleasant Lake. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and all things outdoors. For several years he coached little league baseball. He just became a member of the Carthage Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife: Deanna of Carthage, two sons: Anthony Genito of Carthage and Adam (Cheretta) Genito of Castorland, his three grandchildren who called him Papa, Owen, Trinity and Keegan, their Memaw, Cindy Powell of Castorland, six sisters: Mary Ann (Timothy) Boshart of Glenfield, Linda Hynes of Naumburg, Sally Sears of Carthage, Karen (John) Jones of Beaver Falls, Pamela Genito (Timothy Tyner) of Brownville and his twin sister, Annette (Charles) Genito-Sobek of Pulaski, his brother: Dean Genito of Carthage, a sister-in-law, Shirley (Martin) Mondrick of Rome and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by a sister, Nancy Denise and two brothers-in-law, Stephen Sears and Robert Hynes. Tony made his many nieces and nephews' childhood joyous by always being their favorite adult playmate. He always had time for them, which they remember as a grand thing.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2023, from 4-7pm at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, Carthage. A memorial service will be held at 7:00pm with Deacon Richard Stabb officiating.
