Bernetta V. Miterko, 87, formerly of Deferiet, died Tuesday, April 17, 2018 in her sleep at home in Watertown.
Bernetta was born on January 14, 1931 in Deferiet, the daughter of the late Samuel and Catherine (Peltz) Ganeriski. She attended school in Deferiet and graduated from Carthage High School. She married George S. Miterko on September 24, 1955 at St. Rita's of Cascia Church in Deferiet. George, a foreman for the St. Regis Paper Company died on December 18, 2006. Bernetta worked in the Lab at the St. Regis Paper Company until the birth of her children. She was a devoted mother and housewife.
Bernetta was a longtime member of St. Rita's of Cascia Church, a devoted Syracuse basketball fan and she loved spending time at the family cottage on Lake Ontario.
She is survived by a daughter and her husband: Cathy and Timothy Fahsel of Watertown and a son: Stephen P. Miterko of Watertown; two grandchildren, Kaitlyn Fahsel of Colorado Springs, CO and Kristina Taylor of Adams; two great granddaughters, Anna Taylor and Makayla Fahsel and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by six sisters, Mary, Mildred and Albina Ganeriski, Helen Werner, Sophia Leana and Pauline Moryl.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 20 at St. Rita's Of Cascia Church in Deferiet with Rev. Robert L. Decker, Pastor officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Watertown. Calling hours will be on Friday, April 20 from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home in Carthage.
