Betty Czoper, 96, of West End Ave., Carthage, NY, died Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at the Carthage Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing where she has resided for 6 years.
Betty was born on September 11, 1921 in Carthage, the daughter of the late Nemor and Bertha (Joseph) Betrus of Lebanon. She was a 1939 graduate of Augustinian Academy. She married Adolph Czoper on August 24, 1941 at St. James Church with Rev. Samuel D'Angelo officiating, and they spent more than 50 happy years together until Adolph died on August 16, 1994.
Betty worked as a waitress at the former Calendar's, and she was a clerk at the former American Store, Abbass Food Corp. and the Deferiet Foodland. She was a dedicated member of St. James Church and St. Joseph's Workers, and she volunteered many hours for the St. James Fairs, cooking and selling her celebrated Lebanese food. Betty also was a member of the Carthage Area Hospital Auxiliary and an avid bridge player.
Betty is survived by her son, John M. Czoper of Akron, OH; her son-in-law, Robert Fitzsimmons of Rochester, NY; her granddaughter, Mrs. Michael (Kara) Fayne of Montclair, NJ; two great-grandchildren, Henry and Veronica Fayne; and many nieces, nephews and cousins who loved their Aunt Betty dearly.
She is predeceased by her daughter, Mary Ann Fitzsimmons, who died in 2011; her 6 brothers, Ferris, Thomas, Michael, Simon, Joseph and Peter Betrus; and 2 sisters, Debe and Josephine Betrus.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 28 at St. James Church with Rev. Donald A. Robinson, Pastor officiating. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Friday, April 27 from 4-6pm at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home.
