Carthage, NY- Betty Jean Revette, 81, of Carthage, went home to eternal rest on Feb. 5, 2015, surrounded by her family while under the care of Suncoast Hospice, Pinellas Park, FL.
Born in Carthage on Dec. 10, 1933 to Earl Stiles and Dorothy Waugh Stiles, Betty Jean attended Carthage schools, graduating from CHS in 1951.
Betty set a shining example as a wife, mother, and community member. She had been a school lunch monitor and also worked at several retail establishments over the years, including Western Auto. She last worked as the cashier in the Great Bend Elementary School, from which she retired in 1995. She was an enthusiastic volunteer for many area charitable organizations.
She was a lifelong member of the Carthage United Methodist Church, where she was deeply involved in various activities, including choir director for 40 years, music chairman, director of several Christmas cantatas, Methodist Youth Fellowship leader, Acorn Club, WSCS, and preparing vestibule decorations and displays. She spearheaded many charitable drives, such as Operation Christmas Child, Kosovo Relief, and Afghanistan School Supplies.
Betty served as a village trustee, sang in the Carthage Community Chorus and Oneida Area Civic Chorale, was a Girl Scouts troop leader, including Camp Trefoil director. She was active in the Carthage Music Club, Carthage Little Theater and Dinner Theaters, where she acted, directed, and worked on costumes and makeup. Betty was involved in the local AFS chapter, with she and her family also hosting exchange student Jessica Canelo from Honduras.
Betty Jean enjoyed water skiing, bowling, harness horse racing, puzzles, cats, bird watching, Syracuse University basketball and football, NASCAR racing, travelling, and television. Her congenial personality made her a delightful friend to everyone.
Mrs. Revette is survived by her husband of 51 years, Ronald; 5 children; Kim (George) Brummer, Texas; Lisa (Richard) Hulme, Poplar Ridge, NY; Dion, San Diego, CA; Kirk, Orlando, FL; and Rhonda, Liverpool, NY; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. A grandson, Derek Revette, predeceased her.
A service will be conducted in Clearwater, FL on Thursday, Feb. 12. A celebration and memorial service in Carthage will be held at a later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Suncoast Hospice, 5771 Roosevelt Boulevard, Clearwater, FL 33760.
