Bonnie J. Detwiler, 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 9,2026 at Samaritan Summit Village surrounded by her loving family.

Born on June 25,1936 in Sangerfield, NY, to the late Alaric J. and Bonnie Belle (Betts) Jackson Sr., Bonnie was a 1954 graduate of Carthage High School. A marriage to Francis Mallette ended in divorce.

Bonnie had a fulfilling career as a secretary for New York Air Brake in Watertown. She married J. David Detwiler on June 1,1991 in Three Mile Bay. Bonnie was a former Trustee for the Lyme Free Library and a talented musician who played the piano, organ and accordion. An avid reader and active individual, one of her most memorable experiences was biking from New York to Canada with friends. She cherished her time navigating the waters on the St. Lawrence River and Lake Bonaparte.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Dave Detwiler; her children, Thomas (Mary) Mallette, Donald (Gina) Mallette, and Al (Terri) Mallette, Karin (Brian) Sanford, and Kristin (James) Budd; her brother, Robert “Bob” Jackson; her sister-in-law, Marcia Jackson; her grandchildren, Melissa (Rick) Streeter, Heather (Andre) McKenzie, Gregory (Pricila) Mallette, Alaric (Cassy) Mallette, Anna Mallette, Robert J.(Chelsea) Mallette II, Molly (Ben) Ketchum, and Nicholas (Brooke) Mallette, Joseph Sanford, Brooke (Matthew) Parmeter, Katherine (Sean) Rice and Christina (Eric) Stodd; several great-grandchildren and one great- great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, her son, Robert J. Mallette, Sr., and her brothers, Alaric J. “Jim” Jackson and Travis C. Jackson, her sisters-in-law, Joan Jackson and Cathie Jackson, and her son-in-law, James Sanford.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, April 18,2026 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, 518 State Street, Carthage, NY. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Fairview Cemetery in Carthage. Following the graveside service, a reception will be held at the American Legion, 138 Sterling Street, Watertown, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Lyme Free Library, 12165 NY-12E, Chaumont, NY 13622 or to a local food pantry of your choice. Online condolences can be shared at www. bezanillafh.com.
