Catherine A. Benson, 72, of 624 Adelaide St. Carthage, was stricken in her sleep and passed away on Thursday, March 28,2024 at her home in Carthage.

Cathy was born on April 21,1951 in Carthage, the daughter of the late Herbert and Carrie (Meister) Huston. She was a 1969 graduate of Carthage Central High School. She married Levern A. Benson on September 20,1969 at the Grace Episcopal Church in Carthage. Cathy was a stay-at-home Mom to her two children and husband. She went to all their sporting events and school functions. She loved camping and spending time at Cedar Creek (Happy Hollow), especially driving her golf cart. She often stayed up late nights to watch her favorite show, The Walton's.

Cathy was a former member of the Carthage Vol. Fire Dept. Auxiliary and the VFW Post 7227 Auxiliary of Carthage. She also maintained the books for the Carthage Youth Bowling League for many years.

She is survived by her husband: Levern A. Benson of Carthage, a daughter and her husband: Stacey (Fred) Lawton of Lowville, a daughter-in-law, Tara Benson of Carthage, three grandchildren, Courtney Benson of West Carthage, Trevor Lawton of Lowville and Travis Lawton of Shreveport, LA one great-grandchild; Raya Hubbard of West Carthage, a sister: Helen (Keith) Rearick of Transfer, PA and nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her son, Scott Benson who died December 5, 2019, and a granddaughter, Mykayla Lynn Benson who died on June 12, 2010.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 3 from 4pm-6pm at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home in Carthage. There will be a prayer service beginning at 6:00 pm on Wednesday evening with Rev. Canon Samuel P. Lundy officiating.
