Daniel Jones, 70, of Watertown, died early Wednesday morning, June 12,2024 at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown where he had been a patient for one week.
Daniel was born on August 8,1953 in Carthage, the son of the late William H. and Claudine L. (Trainham) Jones. He was a 1971 graduate of Augustinian Academy in Carthage and Brockport State College in 1975. He received his Masters degree from SUNY Potsdam. He and his wife Barbara A. Ryan enjoyed over thirty years together. Daniel started his employment at the Children's Home in Watertown, followed by BOCES and was a resource teacher at Watertown High School. He retired in January of 2014 after over 30 years of service teaching.
Dan was a Director and Master Instructor at American Kang Duk Won Karate in Watertown. He was involved in the creation of the Star Soccer Club, which he coached for many years. Dan was also actively involved in coaching both soccer and track teams at Watertown High School. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed white water kayaking and rafting, rock climbing and traveling. He truly loved spending time with his family at the family cottage on Pillar Point.
He is survived by his wife: Barbara A. Ryan of Watertown, a daughter and her husband: Danelle and David Nesseth of Fort Wayne, IN; a granddaughter, Savannah Nesseth, a brother and his wife: Mark and Judy Jones of Gainesville, VA and many cousins.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 27 at St. James Catholic Church in Carthage with Rev. Todd E. Thibault officiating. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery in Carthage. The family will receive friends at the Church on Thursday, June 27 from 10:00-11:00 AM. Following the burial, the family invites friends to please join them at the American Legion in Carthage for a reception from 1:00–3:00 PM. The family also requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Funeral arrangements are with the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, Carthage.
