CARTHAGE – Deborah A. Hoffman, 73, of S. Mechanic Street, was unexpectedly stricken at her home Tuesday, February 13 and died on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Wynn Hospital, Utica. Her selflessness toward others was her last gift, when she became an organ donor Monday, February 19.
Deborah was born August 11, 1950 in West Carthage, the daughter of the late Roy A. and Shirley (Homan) Britton. She graduated from Carthage Central High School, class of 1969. Deb married Randy W. Hoffman August 23, 1969 at St. James Catholic Church. She began her secretarial career at Carthage Machine, later continuing in her field at Century 21 of Watertown. Deb retired from Gambles Distributors Inc., after 21 years there in payroll and accounting. After retirement she was the receptionist for Carthage Center Nursing Home.
She is survived by her husband, Randy, their two children, Christina J. (Tim) Myers; Randy W. (Jan) Hoffman Jr.; her sister, Amy Nuffer (Ralph Larson); her five granddaughters, Keira E. (Jessie) Walker; Connor J. (Logan) Lehman; Paige L. (Ryan) Maricich; Hannah M. Hoffman (Daniel McCullouch); Mia K. Hoffman; her five great grandsons, Kayson and Luca Maricich; Greyson and Reid Walker; and Lincoln McCullouch; Numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws. She is predeceased by her sisters, JoEllen (Gary) Goodman, Gail and Cathy Britton.
Calling hours will be held at Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home beginning at noon Saturday, February 24. Funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Deacon Richard J. Staab, officiating. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow the funeral service at the Carthage American Legion Post #789. Spring burial will be held on Friday, May 10th at 11:30am in Fairview Cemetery, Carthage.

Deb's unselfishness towards others and volunteering was her joy. She was a volunteer at Carthage Center Nursing Home for many years. She enjoyed camping, bingo, going to Turning Stone and yard sales. Her biggest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
