Dorine L. Grosse Miterko, 97, Deferiet, N.Y., passed away peacefully on Monday, June 22, 2026. Born on March 21, 1929, at the home of her maternal grandparents in Watertown, NY, to the late Harold & Leoma (Buck) Grosse, the family moved to Deferiet when she was three years old.
On September 15, 1951, Dorine married Michael J. Miterko, son of the late Andrew & Anna (Zedlah) Miterko, at St. Rita’s of Cascia Catholic Church, Deferiet. Mike, a 46-year retiree of St. Regis Paper Co, predeceased her May 2, 2017. She graduated from Deferiet grade school in 1942 and Augustinian Academy in 1946, being employed in the office of St. Regis Paper Co. for ten years. After raising her children, she went to work at Carthage Central High School in the guidance office, then she went to Great Bend Elementary School and retired from a secretarial position.
Dorine is survived by children, Gary Michael (Cindy) Miterko, Webster, NY; and Diane Michelle (Daniel) Warner, Carthage, NY; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband Mike, her sister, Jean E. Andrus, and her brother Richard K. Grosse.
In accordance with Dorine’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026, at 1:00 pm with Deacon Richard J. Staab, officiating at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home located at 518 State Street in Carthage, with interment to follow in the Black River Cemetery where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Deferiet Fire Department, Anderson Ave, Deferiet, NY 13628.
