West Carthage - Doris B. Ellis, 89, formerly of 21 Madison St., died Monday, July 13, 2015, in The Hospital of the University of Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA.
Doris was born in Potsdam on July 30, 1925, the daughter of the late James F. and Mary Kenny Bradley. She attended Potsdam schools and graduated from the State University at Potsdam in 1946 with a Bachelors degree in Education. She later received her Master's degree in Education from Potsdam. Her teaching career started at Deferiet Grade School for 17 years and transferring to West Carthage Elementary, retiring after 39 years of service in 1986 with the Carthage Central School District. She married Delor Ellis, an electrical contractor of Carthage in November of 1956 at St. Mary's Church in Potsdam. The marriage was later annulled.
She leaves one daughter: Diane M. Ellis, a professor at Villanova University in Philadelphia, PA, and one son: Bradley J. Ellis, an electrical engineer of Lunenburg, MA. A sister, Virginia Bowman died in September of 1977.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Church in Potsdam with the Rev. Kail C. Ellis, OSA officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Potsdam. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, Carthage.
