Obituary

Carthage – Emily P. Vogt, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at the Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility. Born on May 11, 1938, in West Carthage, NY, she was the daughter of the late Frank T. and Mary C. (Smith) Boulio.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, June 3, 2025, from 4:00–7:00 PM at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, 518 State Street, Carthage, NY 13619. A graveside service will take place Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Copenhagen, NY, with the Reverend Todd Thibault officiating.

A graduate of Copenhagen Central High School, class of 1957, Emily proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1957–1959. On January 3, 1959, she married Robert J. Vogt at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Copenhagen. Together they made their home in Copenhagen, raising four children and running Vogt's Fuel Oil Company from 1965 to 1981. Robert passed away on June 6, 1983.

Emily worked for several families as a Home Health Caregiver. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church Altar & Rosary Society in Copenhagen, the Carthage Women's Bowling League, and held several leadership roles in veterans' organizations. She was a past commander of DAV #169, the first woman commander of the DAV Council of New York, and a member of the Floyd Lyng Post #0723, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the V.F.W. Dionne Rumble Post #7227.

Emily enjoyed playing softball, fishing, and—above all—found her greatest joy in her family. Of all the roles she held in life, her favorite and proudest was being "GG," the name lovingly given to her by her great-grandchildren. It was the role she was most known for, and the one she cherished above all others. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life and her most treasured gifts. Her candy dish was always full, her kitchen always stocked for guests, and her spirit ever ready to host a card game or a scratch-off lottery session with her grands.

Emily never hesitated to share her opinions or offer her advice—with honesty, humor, and heart. Her legacy lives on through the memories she created and the lessons she lovingly passed down.

She is survived by her children, Ronald "Ronnie" J. (Kim) Vogt, Robin & "Jim" (James) Spaulding, Rhonda J. Petrus, and Roxanne (Timothy) Best—all of Copenhagen, NY. She also leaves behind 21 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, a brother William (Joan) Boulio of Dexter, NY, and a sister, Helen Thilen of Iowa.

Emily was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Robert Vogt; siblings Donald Boulio, Bernard Boulio, Anna Woodward, Mary Gibson, and Eleanor Jacobs; and sons-in-law Brian Gaines and David W. Petrus.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at the Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility for their exceptional care and kindness during Emily's final year.
