Herrings - Evelyn M. Bagnato, 83, of 24539 First St., died Saturday evening, January 11, 2014, in the University Hospital, Syracuse.

Evelyn was born in Herrings on December 8, 1930, the daughter of the late George and Mary Ellen Mushtare Heesh. She attended local schools. She worked at the former St. Regis Paper Mill in Herrings before her marriage to Natalie T. "Tally" Bagnato Jr. on September 5, 1947 at the Black River Methodist Church. The couple lived on Route # 3, Carthage for many years. Mr. Bagnato, a former boss at Carthage Papermakers, died on June 10, 2002. Evelyn was a stay at home Mom and housewife.


She is survived by her four daughters: Sandra (Fred) Cook of Carthage, Debra (Frank) Battista of Watertown, Susan (Frank) Gokey of Watertown and Kathy Bagnato and her companion Robert of Herrings, 6 Grandchildren, 1 Great Grandaughter, Sylvia Glover, one brother: Kenneth Heesh of Carthage and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased her infant son George, 2 brothers, Carl and Lawrence Heesh and a sister, Elizabeth Benson.


Private funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, Carthage. Spring burial will be in Felts Mills Cemetery.
