Obituary

Evelyn C. Peckham, 90, of Limburg Forks Road, Carthage, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at the home of her daughter Teri in Carthage.

Evelyn was born on February 22,1934 in Potsdam, the daughter of the late Leo and Helen (McCarthy) McGinnis. She was a graduate of Norwood High School and trained as a registered nurse at St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing in Utica.  She married C. Fred Peckham Jr. on April 2, 1956 at St. Andrew's Church in Norwood.  She assisted her husband in his medical practice for many years. Fred died on May 9, 1999.

Evelyn was a founding member of the Carthage Area Hospital Auxiliary and their flower sale, an original member of the Juniper Hills Ski Patrol, Kangaroo Dinner Club and the Carthage Senior Citizens. She loved sailing, skiing and traveling. In later years she enjoyed bowling and golfing and has always been an avid card player (Pinochle).

She is survived by one daughter: Teri (Tom) Streeter of Carthage and her two sons: Ted and Larry Peckham, both of West Dover, VT, her Grandchildren, Lauren (Jake) Purington, Karen (Chad) Southwick and David (Desiree') Streeter and her great grandchildren, Benjamin, Leo, James and Celia Purington. two brothers, Patrick (Deanna) McGinnis and Jim McGinnis, both of Norwood, two sisters, Marge Roberts of Elgin, OK and Sister Beth McGinnis OSF, Alleghany, a sister-in-law, Patricia McGinnis of Norwood and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her daughter, Christine Peckham who died on March 13,1976 and a brother, Charles McGinnis.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 8 at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Todd E. Thibault officiating.  Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Carthage.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday, May 7 from 4-6pm at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, Carthage.
