LOWVILLE- Francis E. Hanno Jr., 91, of 7722 East State St., Lowville, died peacefully Wednesday evening, June 10, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Francis was born on October 2, 1934, in Lowville, NY, the son of the late Francis Edward & Dorothy (Kelsey) Hanno Sr. He was raised in Lowville, NY and was a graduate of Lowville High School and Canton ATI, receiving his Associate of Applied Science degree in Agriculture. He served in the United States Army from 1954-1956 during the Korean war. He was stationed in Germany and had many good stories to tell about his time spent there.
Frank was a proud veteran and was a lifetime member of the VFW and also was a member of the American Legion and Elks club.
Frank loved farming and had a partnership “Hanno Farms” with his son, Tim and his wife, Holly for many years for both the farm in Lowville and Glenfield. Frank loved to hunt and fish. He always looked forward to his annual hunting trip to the Southern Tier and hunting at his camp on the hill with his son, family and friends.
Frank also enjoyed writing and often wrote poems for his family for birthdays, anniversaries, or other celebrations along with short stories. He had a quick wit about him and always enjoyed a good joke, story, etc.
He married the love of his life, Barbara Alice Hallock on October 17,1959 at St. Patrick's Church in Watertown; they were together for 62 loving years. The couple owned and operated a dairy farm in Lowville for many years and worked with his son on his farm in Glenfield as well.
He is survived by his two daughters: Susan Hanno of Glenfield and Deborah (Robert) Moseley of Burlington, NC, a son: Timothy (Holly) Hanno of Lowville, 4 granddaughters, Stephanie (Jerry), Jacqueline (Juan), Kelsey and Erica and a great granddaughter, Leah, his siblings, Mark Hanno, Steven Hanno, and Thomas Hanno, all of Lowville, NY; Kurt (Paula) Hanno, Clarksville, TN; Michael Hanno, China Grow, NC; and his sister Jane Ingersoll, Hope Mills, NC.
He is predeceased by his parents, his wife Barbara Alice who died on May 30, 2022, and his sister, Mary Lyng.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, June 22, 2026, at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home in Carthage with his brother, Kurt Hanno, officiating. Burial will follow in Martinsburg Cemetery. After the burial, there will be a Celebration of Life at the VFW in Lowville. Those wishing to drop off food may do so on Monday after 9:00am. There will be no calling hours.
