West Carthage - Frank D. LaVancha, 65, of 6 S. Main St., died Wednesday morning, August 24, 2016, in the VA Medical Center, Syracuse where he has been a patient for three weeks.
Frank was born in Watertown on May 28, 1951, the son of the late Francis and Doreen Sherbino LaVancha. He was a graduate of Watertown High School. He served in the Army from May of 1971 to May of 1973 as a helicopter gunner in Vietnam. A previous marriage ended in divorce. For 26 years he worked at the former St. Regis Paper Company in Deferiet until its closure. He transferred to the Finch-Pryne Paper Mill in Glens Falls and retired after several years of employment.
Frank was a Life member of the VFW Post # 7227 of Carthage and a member of the American Legion Post # 789 also of Carthage.
He is survived by his daughter: Shannon LaVancha of Dexter, two sons: Frank LaVancha II of Watertown and James LaVancha of Phoenix City, AL, his mother, Doreen Delosh of Watertown, two sisters: Dawn Staie of Theresa and Jean and Tom Angus of Stone Mills and a brother: Roger LaVancha of Watertown.
In keeping with his wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Arrangements are with the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home.
