Obituary

Frederick J. Hancock, 60, of Deer River Road, died Thursday, January 1, 2015 after being stricken at his home.

Born July 11, 1954 in Carthage, the son of the late Roger R. Hancock and the former Ann E. Fowlow Hancock, he was a 1974 graduate of Carthage Central School. He married Linda L. Mundy on August 23, 1975 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Copenhagen.

Fred proudly operated his family farm on the Deer River Road until 1998 when it was lost to a fire. The farm was later sold to and rebuilt by his son and daughter-in-law, James and Darcie Hancock. He was currently employed by Terry Groff Auto Repair, Copenhagen and the Public Works Department on Fort Drum. He had previously driven truck for Don Brady, Jefferson Concrete and Deer River Lumber.

Fred enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his ten grandchildren. He was affectionately known to his grandchildren as "Pop Pop" and they loved the candy box in his truck. He also enjoyed hunting and loved to chat about his many hunting trips to Idaho. Fred loved his John Deere tractors and the company of good friends and family. Almost daily, Fred's laughter filled the Chatterbox Diner where he enjoyed breakfast surrounded by friends.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Linda, Deer River; a son, James, and his wife, Darcie, and their children Harley, Kiersten & Chelsey, Deer River; a daughter, Kylie Schell, and her husband, Jonathan, and their son, Ivan and twin grandchildren due in February, of Champion; a daughter, Aimee Reed, and her husband, Ryan, and their son Hunter; a daughter, Stacy Dorchester, and her husband, Donald, and their children, Kamdyn & Mattingly; and a son, Dustin, and his wife, Brittany, and their children, Brady, Wyatt & Sawyer, all of Deer River; his mother, Ann E. Hancock, his siblings, Michael (Colleen) Hancock, Carol Johnson and Kathryn Hancock all of Carthage and Timothy Hancock of Deer River, his mother-in-law, Lois E. Mundy, his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Roger & Marcia Mundy and Ronald & Darlene Mundy all of Copenhagen and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father, Roger R. Hancock, his father-in-law, Roger E. Mundy, a granddaughter, Paige O. Hancock and a brother-in-law, William E. Johnson.

Calling hours at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home will be held on Monday, January 5th from 2-7pm. A memorial service will follow at 7:00pm with the Rev. Edward Murphy officiating.
