Carthage - Glenn A. Sweeney, 73, of 10599 State Rt. # 126, died Tuesday, May 13, 2014, in University Hospital, Syracuse from complications from an accidental fall at his residence on Monday.

Glenn was born in Beaver Falls on November 22, 1940, the son of the late Jeremiah and Edith Schermerhorn Sweeney. He attended school in Beaver Falls. He served in the Navy from 1959 to 1961. He married the former Sharon M. Boliver on January 22, 1966 at St. Stephen's Church in Croghan. He worked for the former St. Regis Paper Company in Deferiet for over 40 years, retiring in 2002. He enjoyed collecting vintage automobiles.

He was a communicant of St. James Church, Carthage and member of the American Legion of Croghan.


Glenn is survived by his wife, Sharon M. of Carthage, two daughters: Jane Sweeney of Castorland and Darcy (Chris) Zehr of Lowville, two sons: Phillip (Dawn) Sweeney of Deer River and Scotty Sweeney and his fiance' Christy Fowlow of Watertown, 7 Grandchildren, one brother: Jack Sweeney of Castorland and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his infant daughter, Tina and his siblings, Doris, Dorothy, Gladys, Emma, Joyce, twin sisters Janice and Joyce, Neil and Paul Sweeney.


Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1:00 PM at St. James Church, Carthage with the Rev. George F. Maroun, Pastor officiating. Burial will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Croghan. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home
