West Carthage

Helen M. Lawton,75, of Dalton Estates, died Friday, October 27, 2017 at SUNY Upstate Hospital in Syracuse.

Helen was born on March 6, 1942 in Watertown, the daughter of the late Leslie E. and Ruth M. (Favret) Bowman. She was a 1960 graduate of Carthage Central High School.  She married Roger G. Lawton on April 28, 1962. Roger died on July 8, 2011. Helen worked as a secretary at the West Carthage Elementary School before becoming a licensed beautician. When her family moved to the New York area, she worked at several salons on Long Island and New City and also from her residence for many years.

She is survived by two sons and their wives: Kevin and Julie Lawton of Carthage and Roger and Tracy Lawton Jr. of Liverpool, a daughter-in-law, Karen Lawton of Midland Park, NJ and her children, Scott, Bryan and Megan Lawton, a sister: Marie Lofink of West Carthage, a brother: Ralph Bowman of West Carthage and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her son, Michael Lawton who died in December of 2016 and two brothers, Roswell and Wayne Bowman.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, November 2 at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Donald A. Robinson, Pastor officiating.  Burial will be in St. James Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, November 1 from 4-7pm at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home.
