Obituary

Helen P. Piroli, 91, of Riverside Drive, Deferiet, passed away early Saturday morning, January 4, 2025, surrounded by her family and under the care of hospice, at the home of her daughter Anne and son-in-law Jimmer in Watertown.

Helen was born on February 25,1933 in Deferiet, the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Tunia) Siedlecki. She was a 1950 graduate of Carthage High School.  She married Thomas Piroli on June 25,1960 at St. Rita's Church in Deferiet. Thomas passed away on January 23, 1981. Helen worked in the chemist laboratory at St. Regis Paper Mill in Deferiet from 1950-1961. After raising her children, she began her employment with Carthage Machine Co. in Carthage up until her retirement.

Helen was a very active member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post # 789 in Carthage, a longtime communicant of St. Rita's Church in Deferiet, a member and treasurer of the Deferiet Senior Citizens Group and was also an election inspector for Jefferson County Board of Elections for many years. Helen was an avid bowler (St. Regis Inn team) and enjoyed traveling to State and National Bowling Conventions. She was her grandchildrens' biggest fan and loved attending their sporting, musical and major life events.  She also enjoyed traveling and visiting numerous places including Germany, Ireland, and California.  In her later years, she enjoyed going to the casinos with her senior friends.

She is survived by two daughters: Anne E. Piroli (Jimmer LaFountain) of Watertown and Amy M. (Brian) Fitzpatrick of Sinking Spring, PA, one son: Thomas A. (Lori) Piroli of Black River, seven grandchildren, Thomas D. (Teresa) Piroli, Alanna M. Piroli, Nicholas A. (Keegan) Piroli, Lucas J. Piroli, Brian T. Fitzpatrick, Jack M. Fitzpatrick and Megan C. Fitzpatrick and one great granddaughter, Arianna M. Piroli. She is predeceased by six brothers, John, Julius, Alexander, Stanley, Edward and Tommy Siedlecki (Infant) and 4 sisters, Agnes Gaffney, Pauline Vars, Susan Staab and Dorothy Siedlecki (Infant).

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 10 at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home in Carthage with her nephew, Deacon Richard Staab officiating.  Spring burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Carthage. Calling hours will be on Friday, January 10 from 11:00am-1:00pm at the funeral home.
