Obituary
West Carthage - James P. Cassoni, Jr., 76, of 63 Madison St., Apt. 101, died early Sunday morning, February 1, 2015, in the Emergency Room of the Carthage Area Hospital after being stricken at his residence.
Jim was born in Watertown on April 5, 1938, the son of the late James P. and Grace Ricco Cassoni Sr. He was a 1956 graduate of Augustinian Academy and 1958 graduate of Canton ATI. Jim married Eleanor A. Ames on July 26, 1958 at St. Mary's Church in Canton. He worked for over 35 years for the former St. Regis Paper Company in Deferiet, retiring as a dispatcher in the maintenance department of Champion International. He also was a payroll clerk and was on the supervisory committee of the credit union.
Jim was a member of St. James Church and served on the Fair Committee, Bishop Conroy General Assembly 4th Degree, Knights of Columbus, K of C Council # 291 of Carthage and the BPOE Lodge # 1762 of Carthage. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his wife Eleanor A. "Ellie" of West Carthage, two daughters and their husbands: Maria and Kenneth Quade of Alamogordo, NM and Margaret and Gregory Woods of Carthage, one son and his wife: James P. and Lucie Cassoni III of Carthage, 9 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren, three sisters: Patricia Gavaletz of St. John's, FL, Diana Hutchins of Carthage and Kathryn (Robert) Chmela of Lindenhurst, NY, one brother: Frank D. (Joyce) Cassoni of Natrona Heights, PA, a sister-in-law, Kathryn Cassoni of Carthage and many nieces and nephews. Jim is predeceased by his parents, James and Grace Cassoni and a brother, John P. Cassoni.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM at St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. George F. Maroun, Pastor officiating. Spring burial will be in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home will be on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8pm. where members of the Elks will conduct a memorial service at 6:30 pm and the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus will stand guard from 6-8pm.
