Obituary

WEST CARTHAGE – James C. Clark, 78, of 26 Barr Street, passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse.

James was born at home in Munns Corners, NY, on September 17, 1934, a son of the late Clifford and Gladys Hedden Bascom Clark. After graduating from Carthage High School in 1952, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict.

He married Glenda Burnside in 1958, who died in 1981. In 1986, he was married to Shirley A. Thomas Lennox. Jim retired after 39 years from James River Paper Company as head of Purchasing and Human Resources. Both Jim and Shirley spent the past 17 years during the winter months in North Myrtle Beach, SC where they enjoyed the company of a close circle of friends. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed hunting as a member of the Presidents Hunting Club, traveling and golf and was an avid reader. He also followed many sports and was an avid fan of the New York Giants and SU basketball. In his younger years, he coached Peewee baseball.

Mr. Clark was a member and communicant of St. James Catholic Church. He was also a member and past "Elk of the Year" at the BPOE Lodge #1762; a member of both Carthage VFW and American Legion and a member of the Carlowden Country Club.

In addition to his wife Shirley, Jim is survived by daughters: Lynne Clark of Carthage and Marion Higman and husband Lee of Baldwinsville and sons: David and Sheila Clark of Oneida and Brian and Shani Stenzel Clark of Wylie, TX; five much-loved grandchildren: Bryant and Connor Clark; Molly and Elizabeth Higman and Bianca Stenzel; his sister Norma Campany in Florida and his special nieces Karen McKinley, Myrna Cummins, Connie Doyle and Susan Campany and his favorite nephew Gary Gondek and a special sister-in-law Mary Jean Thomas.

He is predeceased by his sister Olga "Bootie" Gondek, his brother Reginald "Pal" Bascom and step-son Thomas Lennox.

A funeral mass will be said on Saturday morning at 11:00 at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. George F. Maroun, Pastor officiating.
Spring burial will be in the St. James Cemetery.

Family and friends may call on Friday, February 22, 2013, from 5-8 p.m. at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home.

Members of the Elks will conduct a service at 7:45 p.m. Memorials in Mr. Clark's name may be made to Carthage Elks Shoe Fund.
