James R. Scott, Sr., 74, of 32 Vincent St., died Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown.

Jim was born on August 8, 1943 in West Carthage, the son of the late Robert A. and Anna M. (Brenon) Scott. He attended Augustinian Academy and graduated from Carthage Central School in 1963. He married the former Donna M. Borland on February 6, 1965 at St. James Church in Carthage. Jim worked for the former A&P store in Carthage and Watertown for several years. He then was employed by the Carthage Central School District for 26 years in the Maintenance Department as a groundskeeper.

Jim was a 50year member of the West Carthage Volunteer Fire Department, Past Assistant Chief and Fire Police, Past President of the NNYFD Drill Team, Hornets Drill Team, a member and former "Elk of the Year" and Tiller of the BPOE Lodge # 1762 in Carthage and member of the Sons of the American Legion of Carthage.

He is survived by his wife: Donna M. Scott of West Carthage, one daughter, Jamie Scott Stephens and her husband, Mark of West Carthage; two sons and their wives: James and Kelly Scott Jr. of Deer River and Jeffrey and Kim Scott of Carthage; 10 grandchildren; Jimmy, Jeramy, Jenna, Amanda, Chelsea, Rachel, Chloe, Kayden, Liam and Ella; 4 great grandchildren; Aleighna, Braylee, Olivia and Beau; three sisters: Patricia Soules, Elaine (James) Surace and Mary Alice (John) Murphy, all of Carthage; one brother: Thomas (Paulette) Scott of Champion; a sister-in-law, Dawn Scott of West Carthage and several cousins, nieces and nephews. A brother, John Scott and a brother-in-law, William Soules are predeceased.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, June 28 at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Donald A. Robinson officiating. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, June 27 from 4-8pm at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home. An Elks memorial service will be held at 6:30pm on Wednesday and members of the West Carthage Fire Department will form an honor guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the West Carthage Vol. Fire Department or to the Carthage Area Rescue Squad.
