Carthage - JoAnn Covey, 54, of 23423 Alexandria St. Road, died on Sunday morning, September 13, 2015, at her residence where she was under the care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County.

JoAnn was born in Carthage on April 25, 1961, the daughter of Leland and Joan Higgins Weaver. She married Daniel C. Covey on November 12, 1977 at the Carthage Methodist Church in Carthage. She was a 1979 graduate of Carthage Central High School. She was employed for 10 years at the former James River Company in the converting department, was a bus driver for the Carthage Head Start Program and for 11 years, has been a teller at the Carthage Federal Savings and Loan.


JoAnn was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel C. of Carthage, one daughter and her husband: Mrs. Jordon (Erin M.) Gebo of Carthage, two sons and their wives: Marc D. (Meredith) Covey and Daniel C. (Kiley) Covey Jr., all of Carthage, her 8 Grandchildren, Connor, Tyler, Rori, Jayden, Chloe, Blake, Lane and Maci, her parents, Leland "Zeke" and Joan Weaver of Deferiet, three sisters: Mrs. Gary (Betsy) Parobeck of Carthage, Mary Kjersen of Watertown and Mrs. Justin (Laura) Wormwood of Carthage, two brothers: Dale (Karen) Weaver and James "Coco" (Dawn) Weaver, all of Carthage, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. An infant daughter, Amy Jo Covey, died in 1980.


In keeping with her wishes, there will be a "Celebration of her Life" on Saturday, September 19th from 3-8pm at the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge # 1762 in Carthage. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, Carthage.
