Joanne (Fetterly) Stanley, a cherished daughter, sister, and friend, whose life was marked by kindness and resilience, was born in Potsdam, New York to Alfred and Helen Fetterly. Raised with deep familial bonds, Joanne carried the love and lessons of her late parents and her sister, Marilyn Gardner, throughout her life.

Joanne’s early years were spent in the embrace of her family, which included her beloved brothers, Dick, Bob, Doug, and Dave, all of whom continue to carry forward the family legacy. The Fetterly household was filled with laughter and warmth, a testament to the love shared among siblings.

After graduating from Carthage High School in 1966, Joanne pursued further education at a Secretarial school in Syracuse, where she honed skills that would serve her well throughout her professional journey. She dedicated many years as a legal secretary in Tampa, Florida; and then as an administrative secretary at Farm Credit in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, before she retired. She brought diligence and a positive spirit to her workplace, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues.

Joanne’s personal life was one of exploration and growth. Her first marriage to Jim Hyde, though it ended in divorce, was a chapter filled with learning and change. Her subsequent marriage to Claude Stanley brought many good years of companionship and joy, although it too eventually concluded. Through it all, Joanne remained steadfast in her faith and love in the Lord.

Her life was enriched by simple pleasures and hobbies that brought her joy. Joanne found delight in music and word search puzzles, and she was a familiar face at her local church, where she found community and peace. She also enjoyed traveling. Family visits were especially precious to her, as they were opportunities to share laughter, stories and love.

Joanne’s spirit was characterized by a positive outlook, even during challenging times. Her sense of humor and ability to find joy in thrift store shopping excursions with her sister left those around her with warm memories. Joanne endeavored to be a ray of sunshine, offering comfort and cheer to others in their moments of need, a testament to her generous and compassionate nature.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Samaritan Summit Village for the compassionate care provided to Joanne. Their support was a source of comfort and strength to both Joanne and her family.

In keeping with Joanne’s wishes, she will be cremated. A celebration of Life will be held in the Spring at the families convenience. For those who wish to honor Joanne’s memory, the family suggests donations be made to a charity of one’s choice, reflecting Joanne’s spirit of generosity and love for helping others.
