Obituary

John E. Young, Jr. 84, formerly of Mosher Road, Carthage, died Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility in Lowville.

John was born, May 22, 1934 in Akron, OH., the son of the late John E. and Mary (Cannon) Young Sr.  He was a graduate of Most Holy Rosary High School in Syracuse and attended St. Bonaventure University.  John served with the United States Marine Corps from 1956-1958. He married the former Jeanne L. Hebert on August 10, 1957 in Syracuse and they celebrated 61 years of marriage. He was a member of the New York Army National Guard, stationed at Fort Drum from 1976-1994 and served in Desert Shield/Desert Storm from 1990-1991. He also was a member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary from 2001-2011. The couple have lived in the Carthage area since 1977 where John was the owner/operator of North Country Medical in Watertown, Stay at Home Helpers and Response Link and the TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) Center in Carthage.

He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and a true humanitarian. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and serving his country.

He was a member of St. Rita's Church in Deferiet, the Syracuse Jaycee's, the Knights of Columbus and served on the Board of Directors of the Carthage Area Hospital.

He is survived by his wife: Jeanne L. Young of Carthage, one daughter: Debra J. Loewy and her husband James of Syracuse, two sons and their wives: David John Young and Michelle Chauppette of Houma, LA and Michael A. (Gretchen) Young of Henderson, four grandchildren, Jonathan Young, Emma Holmes, Alexandra Loewy and Ian Young; 2 great grandchildren, Everett Young and Isla Young, a sister: Judith A. Fillback of Cary, NC  and many nieces and nephews. A brother, David Michael Young died in 2009.

Memorial services will be held at a date and time to be announced. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, Carthage.
