WATERTOWN- Joseph A. Guenet Sr., 78, who passed away at his home on Friday, May 1st.
Joseph was born on August 24, 1947, in West Warwick, Rhode Island, to the late Joseph Edward and Marie Lucie Cecile (Joyal) Guenet. He graduated from Coventry High School and married Virginia D. Dutch on July 24, 1972. The couple lived in Rhode Island and Georgia before moving to Harrisville, NY, in 1994, and eventually to Black River in 2017, then to Watertown.
Throughout his career, Joseph served as a corrections officer for the Georgia Department of Corrections, a welder at Electric Boat, a nurse’s aide, an EMT, and a security guard for New York State. He was deeply involved in his community as a former member of the Harrisville United Methodist Church and a volunteer firefighter for over 20 years, during which time he served as chief and was a founding member of the Harrisville Rescue Squad. Joseph enjoyed fishing, camping, reading, and crossword puzzles, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family.
He is survived by his sons, Joseph “Jay” (Tammy) Guenet Jr. and Jarrod (Nicholas) Guenet, both of Watertown; a niece, Shirley (Albert) Rodriguez, GA; his sister, Celeste (Donald) Cunningham; Rhode Island; his brother-in-law, Francis Dutch, Natural Bridge; three grandchildren, Larkin and Seth Guenet and Michael Martell; and seven great-grandchildren. Joseph was predeceased by his son, Michael Guenet, in 1996, and his wife, Virginia, in 2022.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral services. Arrangements are under the care of the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home in Carthage. Condolences may be shared with the family online at www.bezanillafh.com.
