Carthage - Joseph Priore, 93, of 222 State St., died Sunday, May 13, 2012, in the Skilled Nursing Unit of the Carthage Area Hospital.
Born, Giuseppe Priore on September 12, 1918 in Manhattan, he was the son of the late Potito and Carmella D'Amato Priore. Joseph was a graduate of Clayton High School in New Jersey and attended Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. He served in the Army for over 24 years from July of 1942 to November of 1966. He retired as a Master Sergeant at Camp Drum. He married the former Ida E. Trombley on January 10, 1968 in Carthage. A previous marriage to Anna Corvino ended in divorce. Joe and Ida operated an arcade, consignment shop and Joe's Lunchenette on State St. in Carthage for several years. Mrs. Priore died on October 24, 2001.
He is survived by two daughters: Carmella McKendrick of N. Brunswick, NJ and Rosemary Deeney of Toms River, NJ, a son: John Priore of Greenville, IN, two step daughters, Regina M. Simmons of Carthage and Patricia Fitzmaurice of IL; several grandchildren and great grandchildren, a sister: Carmella Hyde of Clayton, NJ, a brother: Orlando Priore of Natchez, WA and several nieces and nephews. Two sons, Joseph and Michael Priore and two sisters, Rose Valletta and Sarah Santangelo and two brothers, Nicholas and Andrew died previous.
Graveside services with military honors will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM at Old St. James Cemetery, Carthage. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, Carthage.
