Kathryn A. Cassoni, 75, of West St. Road, died Monday morning, April 3, 2017 while under the care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County.
Kay was born October 23, 1941 in Carthage, the daughter of the late Leonard and Kathryn (George) Kempney. She married John P. Cassoni on July 27, 1963 at St. James Church in Carthage with Rev. Francis X. Campbell officiating. John died on September 27, 1997 after suffering a heart attack. Kay was the manager at the former Augsbury Ultramart on State St. in Carthage for many years until its closing.
She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandkids, bowling, bingo, crocheting and playing computer games.
She is survived by two daughters: Cindy Childers of Carthage and Mrs. Gerald (Tammy) Mack of Ogdensburg, two sons: Duane (Chris) Cassoni of Black River and John W. (Jennifer) Cassoni of Watertown, 6 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren, two sisters: Ruth Bickom of Rochester and Betty Endres of Watertown, one brother: Allen (Georgia) Kempney of Concord, AL and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her son, Todd Allen Cassoni who died on May 13, 1978, two sisters, Shirley Shattuck and Joyce Shuemaker and a brother, Clinton George.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 7 at St. James Catholic Church in Carthage, with Rev. Donald A. Robinson, Pastor officiating. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Thursday, April 6 from 4-7pm at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home.
