It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Kurt Charles Lyons aged 64, who died peacefully at home on Saturday, August 29, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on November 21, 1961 in Niagara Falls, NY to the late Elizabeth Lyons DeFrank. Kurt graduated in 1980 from East High School in Rochester, NY. Throughout his life, he worked at Wegmans, owned and operated Al’s Towing in Rochester, and managed Hannaford’s until becoming disabled.
Kurt was well known as a master in the arts of all things Pokémon. He was also an avid gamer. Kurt loved music and had a beautiful tenor voice. He could captivate an entire room when he sung. Kurt sang with the St. James Choir and well as Northern Choral. Kurt coached basketball, baseball, and was involved in cub scouts while his children were growing up. Kurt loved all of his animals at home over the years, most especially his dog peanut. He also loved gardening and landscaping his backyard.
He is survived by his wife, Annette Lyons "Honey Badger", his children Joshua Lyons (Holly), Christian Lyons (Marissa), and Rachel Lyons (Nathaniel). He is also survived by the mother of his children Lisa Lyons and his mother-in-law Mary Toner as well as his step sons Tim Petrie (Macy) and Kyle Petrie (Taylor), his grand kids Lizzie, Blake, AJ, Bryce, Mason and many others in his extended family.
Our family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at hospice for the love and care they showed us, especially Shawn, Kelly, and Stephanie of Jefferson County Hospice.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Carthage Elks Club at 511 Fulton St., Carthage NY 13619 on September 13th, 2026 from 1-4pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to Hospice of Jefferson County,1398 Gotham Street, Watertown, NY 13601.
