Carthage - Leon H. "Mick" Leeder, 83, of 704 Alexandria St., died late Wednesday evening, January 23, 2013, in the Skilled Nursing Unit of the Carthage Area Hospital after a brief illness.

Mr. Leeder was born in Carthage on July 2, 1929, the son of the late Delbert and Ella Imerson Leeder. He was a graduate of Carthage High School. He worked for the Latham Family in Deer River as a groomer for professional harness racing horses then later for Bezanilla Dairy and Campany Furniture Company of Carthage. For forty years, he and his business partner, George Wohnsiedler together operated the Carthage Furniture Company on State St. in Carthage.

Mr. Leeder has served on the Carthage Federal Savings and Loan Association Board of Directors from 1965 until the present time and has held the position of Chairman of the Board since 1973.

Mr. Leeder was a life member of BPOE Lodge # 1762, Carthage, founding member and President of Panther Mountain Fish and Game Club, Harrisville and Lake of the Woods Club, Buckingham, Que..

Mick enjoyed annual fishing trips to Canada and big game hunting trips to Wyoming.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews. 6 brothers, Emmett, Vern, Paul, Jack, Ross, Ralph and 3 sisters, Winnie, Phyllis and Irene are predeceased.


Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 3:00 PM at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, conducted by the members of the BPOE Elks Lodge in Carthage. Spring burial will be in the family plot in Fairview Cemetery, Carthage. A calling hour will precede the service from 2-3pm. There will be a reception at the Elks Club immediately following the services.
