Obituary

Leslie (Red) Nevills 93, of 95-1/2 Bridge Street, died Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse after a short illness.

Born in Carthage on December 10, 1923 the son of Frank and Vera Nevills, he attended local schools. He married Doris Burke on May 18, 1946. Doris passed April 25, 2009.

He owned and operated Nevills Bros Service Station with his wife, Doris for 58 years, closing in 2005.

He served in the United States Army from January 26, 1944 and was honorably discharged March 29, 1946. He was a light machine gunner with the 36th Division, active in the European Theatre of Operations.

He enjoyed hunting and staying at his hunting camp in Brantingham. He and his wife Doris enjoyed going to car shows and gambling and traveled to many casinos.

Leslie is survived by his children Daniel and his companion Diane, Natural Bridge, Katherine (Katie) Pais and her husband John, Deferiet and Theodore (Ted) and his companion Lisa, Copenhagen; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his siblings: Art, Harry, Leon and Harold Nevills and Rachael Stiner and Hazel Martin.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 8 from 2-5 pm at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, Carthage with a prayer service following at 5 PM with Deacon Richard Staab officiating. Burial will be at the family's convenience.

Memorial donations may be made to the Carthage Area Rescue Squad.
