Black River - Malcolm D. "Butch" Campbell, 69, of 103 Beaumont Ave., died Friday, August 7, 2015, in the emergency room of the Samaritan Medical Center after being stricken.
Butch was born in Lowville on June 22, 1946, the son of the late Martin and Ruth Palka Campbell. He was a graduate of Watertown High School. He worked for the Watertown Times, and the US Postal Service before serving in the Army from 1967 to 1969 during the Vietnam War. He was working on Fort Drum when he met the former Sharon Myers and they later married on January 31, 1970 at St. James Church in Carthage. For 30 years he worked as a machinist at Carthage Machine Company, retiring in 1998.
Butch was a member of the BPOE Lodge # 1762 in Carthage and the VFW of Black River.
He was an avid bowler, bowling in Carthage and Watertown in several leagues. He especially enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing and being able to enjoy his grandchildren in those activities.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Campbell of Black River, one daughter and her husband: Laurie and Rick Countryman of Philadelphia, 3 grandchildren; Cody Campbell, Shannon Countryman and Rickie Countryman, a sister: Karen Patterson of Houston, TX, a brother and his wife: Robert and Brenda Campbell of Georgia, a brother-in-law, Richard Bishop of Natural Bridge and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by 2 brothers, Thomas and James and 2 sisters, Cora and Mary Lou.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:30am at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home in Carthage with the Rev. Donald A. Robinson officiating. Entombment will be in Glenwood Mausoleum, Watertown. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4-7pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Black River Ambulance Squad or to the Black River Fire Department.
