Carthage - Margaret Rose Gaebel, 90, former owner of M.R. Gaebel Inc., died Thursday, April 16, 2015, in the Country Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center where she has resided for five years.
Margaret Rose was born in New Bremen on August 16, 1924, the daughter of the late Leo and Katherine Sauter Thesier. She graduated from Lowville Academy at the age of 14. She began her accounting career after graduation, working for her father at Thesier Implements in Carthage for 12 years. She opened her own office and worked 28 years at her residence on the Copenhagen Road before moving the office to 850 State St., retiring in 1987 after 50 years of income tax preparation and accounting business. She married Sterling D. Gaebel on August 17, 1946 at St. James Church in Carthage. In 1971 the couple bought their first camp on Lake Bonaparte and enjoyed several summers there. Mr. Gaebel died on October 9, 2009.
She was a member of the National Assoc. of Tax Practitioners and was an enrolled Agent of the IRS, a former officer of the Ave Maria Circle of Carthage and a member of the Lake Bonaparte Conservation Club.
She leaves, six daughters and their spouses: Mrs. Charyn (Frank) Watson of Patterson, NY, Dr. Cheryl Gaebel (Paulette Gose') of Kamuela, HI, Mary Ann (Lyndon) Higby of Leesburg, FL, Dr. Teresa (John) Bach of Carthage, Carolyn Gaebel of Watertown and Linda Higby of Mexico, two sons and their wives: Mr. David (Carolyn) Gaebel of Fresno, CA and Mr. Jeffrey (Ellen) Gaebel of Deferiet, 19 grandchildren and 23 Great Grandchildren, one sister: Ruth Gaebel of Carthage, three brothers: Laurence Thesier of Oswego, Patrick Thesier of Cape Coral, FL and Wilbur Thesier of Pelham, NH and many nieces and nephews. Two sisters, Katherine Peters and Marjorie Phillips and seven brothers, Art, Roger, Fred, Thomas, Francis, Paul and Grant Thesier predeceased her.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 am at St. James Church with the Rev. George F. Maroun, Pastor officiating. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home will be on Sunday from 2-5pm.
