Carthage - Margaret Pound, 96, of 222 State St., died Wednesday evening, April 25, 2012, in the Skilled Nursing Unit of the Carthage Area Hospital where she has been a resident since February.
Margaret was born in Rossie, NY on August 25, 1915, the daughter of the late James F. and Rose Ann Farrell Pound. She attended schools in Rossie, Watertown and Antwerp High School, graduating in 1934. She later attended the Brown's Business Institute in Lynbrook, NY.
Margaret worked for the former Crown Zellerbach Corp, Grants Department Store, St. Regis Paper Company and for many years was a payroll clerk for the Climax MFG. in Castorland, retiring in 1971. She continued working for Headstart under the federal program, Green Thumb as an aide for 12 years. She was a volunteer for the Wilna-Champion Transportation Assoc. for many years.
Margaret was an avid bowler and bingo player.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Five brothers, Gerald, Harold, Francis, Frederick and Maurice Pound and a three sisters, Ethel Pound, Theresa Dobson and Alice Raimondo died previously.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM at St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. George F. Maroun, Pastor officiating. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home will be on Friday from 2-5pm.
