Marie Blackwell, 90, of North Main St., West Carthage, passed away on Monday morning, November 20,2023 at the Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility in Lowville.

Marie was born September 30,1933 in Deferiet, the daughter of the late Francis and Ilene (Gaines) Lewis. She was raised by her adopted father, Michael Giovo. Her early education was in Adams. She later in life earned a degree in psychology from Jefferson Community College. She was a case worker for the Jefferson County Department of Social Services in Watertown for many years until her retirement.

She was a former member of the Red Hats Society.

She is survived by her son, Stanley Woch of Bryant, Arkansas, her sister, Linda Compo of Lowville and nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held at 10:30 am on Friday, November 24 at St. James Cemetery, Carthage with Deacon Richard Staab officiating.  Funeral arrangements were with the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, Carthage. To leave a condolence, go to www.bezanillafh.com.
