Carthage - Marie Elaine Cimarello, 82, of 818 Parham St., died Friday evening, October 17, 2014 at her residence, surrounded by her loved ones.

Marie was born in Lowville on March 11, 1932, the daughter of the late Walter and Cecile Proulx Segovis. She attended Lowville Academy and the Utica School of Business. She married Peter J. Cimarello Sr. on August 27, 1954 at St. Peter's Church in New Bremen. Mr. Cimarello died on November 9, 1993. She was a nurse's aide working at the former Greenbriar Nursing Home, the Skilled Nursing Unit of Carthage Area Hospital and finally for Care Givers, retiring in 1993.


She was a member of the Red Hat Society, TOPS of Carthage and the Ave Maria Circle. She volunteered at St. James Church for many years and was an active parishioner.

She is survived by one daughter: Cheri Decker and her husband Stephen of Gillett, PA, one son: Peter Joseph Cimarello Jr. and his wife Darcy of Carthage, 5 Grandchildren, Lynley Marie Decker, Paige Catherine Decker, Joseph Paul Cimarello, Ceara Lynn Leydig and Celine Marie Cimarello, 2 Great Grandchildren, Mattilyn and Merritt Leydig. An infant daughter Catherine Marie Cimarello and a sister, Delores A. Mitchell died previous.


Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. George F. Maroun, Pastor officiating. Burial will be in the St. Peter's Cemetery, New Bremen. Calling hours at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home will be on Monday from 4-7pm.

Memorial donations may be made to the SPCA of Watertown, the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
