Deferiet - Marie D. Pais, 88, of 84 Riverside Drive, died Tuesday, April 14, 2015, in the Carthage Area Hospital where she has been a patient for five days.
Marie was born in Freeland, PA on December 5, 1926, the last surviving daughter of 16 children to the late Michael and Anna Dvorchak Adams. She married Mario A. Pais on November 4, 1949. Mr. Pais, a former employee of the St. Regis Paper Company, died on December 3, 2000.
Marie worked as a waitress at the former St. Regis Inn, Deferiet for 20 years and retired as a supervisor with AAFES at Fort Drum with over 30 years of service. She was an avid bingo player, loved crossword puzzles and enjoyed watching her great granddaughters, Hannah and Mia at their dance classes.
Marie was a member of St. Rita's Church of Deferiet.
She is survived by one daughter: Helen M. Pais of Deferiet, one son and his wife: John M. (Katie) Pais of Deferiet, a granddaughter, Mrs. Randy (Jan) Hoffman Jr. of West Carthage, a grandson, Daniel Pais of Deferiet and great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 5:00 PM at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, Carthage with Deacon Richard Staab officiating. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Carthage at the family's convenience. Calling hours will precede the funeral service on Friday from 2-5pm.
