West Carthage - Marjorie Jean Sylver, 83, formerly of Dalton Estates, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, April 14, 2013, at the Hospice of Jefferson County, Ellis Farm, Watertown.
Marjorie was born in Watertown on March 31, 1930, the daughter of the late Eugene and Dorothy Powell Mosher. She was a 1948 graduate of Augustinian Academy in Carthage. She married Clarence "Slim" Sylver on July 5, 1948 at St. James Church, Carthage. Mr. Sylver was a custodian at the West Carthage Elementary School for many years. Marjorie was a bookkeeper for the former Gurnett Insurance Agency in Carthage and for twelve years worked at Northland Agency LTD in Watertown, retiring in October of 1982. The couple moved to Florida after their retirement. Mr. Sylver died on March 1, 2002. Marge returned to Carthage in 2005, living at Dalton Estates. She lived for a brief time at the Jefferson County Adult Home until her recent illness.
She is survived by three daughters and two son-in-laws: Sister Constance Marie Sylver SSJ of Watertown, Deborra and Paul Dorcher of South Weare, NH and Susan and Tom King of Kalamazoo, MI, two sons and their wives: Stephen and Gail Sylver of Montgomery Ctr., VT and Alan and Julie Sylver of Carthage, 8 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren, a sister: Mary Lou Stone of Punta Gorda, FL and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM at St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. George F. Maroun, Pastor officiating. Burial will be in the Black River Cemetery. Calling hours at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home will be on Wednesday from 4-7pm.
