Marjorie J. Ward, 94, former resident of West Carthage, died Wednesday morning, April 18, 2018 in Parkland, Florida.
Marjorie was born on March 22, 1924 in Carthage, the daughter of the late Henry and Victoria M. (LaFave) Rigabar. She was a graduate of Augustinian Academy. She married Thomas W. Ward Sr. on December 14, 1944 at the First Methodist Church in Carthage with the Rev. William K. Bradshaw, Pastor officiating. Tom, a former engineer for Conrail for 41 years, died on November 28, 2001. Marjorie worked at the Carthage Area Hospital, Carthage Central School Cafeteria, Faye's Boot Shop and Beyer's Clothing Store in Carthage. The couple spent their summers at their cottage on Guffins Bay and wintered in Barefoot Bay, Florida for many years.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law: Thomas W. and Anita Ward Jr. of Parkland, FL; two grandchildren, four great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her daughter, Sandra Orsie, a sister, Roberta Boyd and three brothers, Raymond, Henry and Donald Rigabar.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:00 am on Monday, April 23 at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Donald A. Robinson, Pastor officiating. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Carthage. Calling hours will be on Sunday, April 22 from 1-3pm at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home.
