Mary Burke Abbass, 80, of 850 West St., passed away on March 2, 2018 at Upstate Hospital in Syracuse.

Mary Agnes Burke was born November 25, 1937 to the late William and Gladys (Ryan) Burke in Chateaugay, New York.  She graduated from Chateaugay Central School in June 1955.  She continued her education at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Watertown, graduating in 1958.   Mary went on to achieve her Bachelor's Degree at Plattsburgh State University in 1961.  She worked as a Registered Nurse.  She became a school nurse in the Carthage Central School system from 1962 to 1966.

On August 21, 1965, Mary and Peter A. Abbass were wed at St. Patrick's Church in Chateaugay, New York.

She is survived by her children, Peter (Bettilyn) Abbass, Carthage, Michael, Denver, Colorado, Beth Ann (Peter) Levos, Watertown and Patricia Abbass, Austin, Texas; her grandchildren, Gregory Abbass and Caitlin Abbass, Carthage.  She is also survived by her sisters, Ann Burke and Catherine Burke, a brother and sister in law, Patrick and Judy Burke, all of Chateaugay.  She has several nieces and nephews as well.  She is predeceased by her husband, Peter, her parents and her brother and sister in law, John and Monica Burke.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm at the Bezanilla- McGraw Funeral Home in Carthage.  Her funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm on Tuesday at St. James Church in Carthage with the Rev. Donald A. Robinson, Pastor officiating. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery.
