Carthage - Mary L. Rushlow, 93, of 403 S. Mechanic St., died Monday, May 6, 2013, in the Skilled Nursing Unit of the Carthage Area Hospital.

Mary was born in Omaha, Nebraska on December 24, 1919, the daughter of the late Gaetano and Agata Monzu Vacanti. She attended school in Omaha, graduating in 1935. She married James A. "Rusty" Rushlow on April 27, 1946 in Omaha. Mr. Rushlow, a former maintenance supervisor for Carthage Papermakers, died on April 7, 2000. Mary worked at the F.W. Woolworth Co. in Omaha, NE, Carthage Bowling Alley, W.T. Grants Store, Camp Drum and Altamont Dairy in Carthage.

She was a member of St. James Catholic Church and an active member of TOPS Chapter #674, Carthage.

She is survived by her three sons: Thomas J. ( Sara) Rushlow of West Carthage, James A. (Janet) Rushlow II of Carthage and Stephen W. Rushlow of Carthage, 6 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren, one sister: Marian Belfiore of Fremont, NE and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary is predeceased by 5 brothers, Anthony, Charlie, Alfio, Phil and Alfio Vacanti and a sister, Mary Vacanti.


Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. George F. Maroun, Pastor officiating. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home will be on Tuesday (today) from 4-7pm.
