Obituary

Mary K. Williams, 97, a longtime resident of West Side Terrace, West Carthage, passed away on Monday evening, August 12, 2024 at the Sunset Nursing Home in Boonville.

Mary was born July 20,1927 in Canastota, the daughter of the late Henry and Kathryn "Tootie" (Schwendy) Bockinheim (Buckingham).  She attended schools in Kirschnerville and Beaver Falls.  A marriage to Gerald F. Williams ended in divorce. He passed away in 1970. Mary was employed at Climax in Castorland for five years before the birth of her children. After raising her family, she worked at Beaverite in Beaver Falls where she was a machine tender until her retirement.

Mary was a member and Past President of the American Legion Auxiliary Post # 789 in Carthage with 50 plus years of continuous service. Mary was an avid bowler, bowling in Lowville and Carthage and participated in many state events. She loved going to Bingo, butterflies and she was an excellent cook.

She is survived by her four sons: Gerald (Janice) Williams of Croghan, Thomas Williams (Diane Bush) of Beaver Falls, Wayne Williams of West Carthage and David (Jill) Williams of Carthage, 9 Grandchildren,11 Great Grandchildren and 4 Great Great Grandchildren, three sisters: Rose Ball and Anna Rigabar, both of West Carthage and Betty Buckingham of Rochester, two sisters-in-law, Marlene Williams (Ernie) Clemons and Marilyn Bauer Williams, a brother-in-law, Harold Williams, a sister-in-law, Patricia Buckingham of Massachusetts. and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by two infant daughters, Kathleen Marie Williams, and Linda Mary Williams, a grandson, Corey Joseph Williams and her six brothers, Richard, Gilbert, Ambrose, Glen, Ronald and Anthony Buckingham.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00 am on Friday, August 16 at St. James Catholic Church in Carthage with Rev. Todd E. Thibault officiating.  Burial will be in Lowville Rural Cemetery, Lowville. Calling hours will be Thursday, August 15 from 4-6pm at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home in Carthage.
