Obituary

We are heartbroken to share that Melissa passed away peacefully, at home, on April 3, 2024.

Melissa, affectionately known as Missy, was born on April 18, 1970, to Sally Devore in Louisville, Kentucky. She was happily situated in the middle of her lifelong best friends- her "big sis" Tina and "little sis" Kym. Missy shared an incredibly strong bond with her mom and sisters, and throughout life they remained close no matter how far away Missy lived.

Missy graduated from North Bullitt High School in 1988. She married the love of her life, Mike, on September 10, 1988, and together they traveled the world while raising their four children. Missy was a proud mother and Army wife, whose remarkable strength held the family together while Mike was deployed all around the world throughout his career. Their marriage was filled with endless laughs and inside jokes, adventures, road trips with walkie talkies, and most importantly they shared a deeply seeded love for music. There was never a dull moment between the two of them.

Missy loved to read and could often be found with her Kindle or a Stephen King book in her hands. She was incredibly talented at cross stitch, she loved watching Friends and The Big Bang Theory and enjoyed putting together Lego sets with her husband. Missy loved to dance around the house and was without a doubt Celine Dion's biggest fan.

Missy fiercely loved her "Old Kentucky Home" and was proud of her upbringing. She was an avid sports fan and closely followed the Kentucky Wildcats and Boston Red Sox. Missy's animated habits while watching basketball could quickly clear a room, but that did not deter her from cheering on her team. She shared her love for college basketball with her nephew, Devin, and was often cheering for her Red Sox while on the phone with her mother-in-law, Marsha.

Above all, Missy's proudest accomplishment was her family, and this is what brought her the most joy. She was extremely proud of her children and of the life she and Mike built together.

We owe everything to her. We know we would have chapped lips to this day if it wasn't for Mom and her Blistex. We would not be who we are without her dedication, routines, guidance, having us drink a glass of milk each night at dinner, and the unconditional love she has shown each of us since the day we were born. We truly were lucky to love her and be loved by her.

Missy is survived by her husband of 35 years, Mike and their four children: Jessica (Ben), Faith (Courtney), Brian (Melanie), and Kevin (Lauren). Grammy is survived by her grandchildren, Bryton, Landon, Loralei, and Baby Connell.

In addition, Missy is survived by her mother, Sally, her sisters, Tina (Danny) and Kym (Jeff). Missy is also survived by her Massachusetts family, her mother-in-law, Marsha, brother, Tim, and sister, Amy (Brian). Aunt Meme lives on through her nephews, Devin, CJ, Matthew, Rhys and Wesley, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

In following Missy's wishes, there will be no services at this time.

Mom, we will forever miss you, like the deserts miss the rain.
