Michael J. DeCaprio, 47, a cherished son, brother, nephew, uncle, and friend who was known for his adventurous spirit and compassionate heart, passed away unexpectedly on February 23, 2024, at his home in Lackawanna, NY. Born to Michael and Laura (Brown) DeCaprio on December 29, 1976.
Michael's early life in Carthage, NY laid a strong foundation for a man connected to his roots. He graduated from Augustinian Academy and Carthage High School in 1994 and went on to pursue his passion, earning a bachelor's degree from Saint Bonaventure University. Post Graduation he then became a Corrections Officer and later served in the National Guard. He was currently working as a manager at Save-A-Lot Store in Blasdell, NY.
Michael loved his friends and family. A history enthusiast, Michael could often be found engrossed in discussions about government, politics, and science. That was something that fascinated him deeply.
Michael's laugh was infectious, his love for basketball and weightlifting was legendary and his ability to be loved by anyone who knew him was unparalleled. Michael's good looks even scored him an appearance on Mob Wives as a bodyguard working alongside "Big Ang".
Michael was predeceased by his mother and father, Michael (Laura) DeCaprio, His memory will be honored and kept alive by his brother, Matthew (Summer) DeCaprio; his daughter, Gianna; Niece, Ella and his aunt, Ruthanna DeCaprio. Michael also had many life-long friends that cared for him deeply.
A funeral service and celebration of Michael's life will be held privately by his family. Michael will be laid to rest with his parents. A burial will be held in the spring at St James Cemetery.
