Obituary

WEST CARTHAGE - Mildred K. Higman, 96, of Meadowbrook Terrace, died late Saturday evening, March 22, 2014 at Carthage Area Hospital.

Mrs. Higman was born on October 31, 1917 in Oneida, the daughter of the late Isaac L. and Bessie (Hanmer) Kelsey. Mildred graduated from Lowville Free Academy in 1936. She married Albert T.Higman on July 12, 1939 at St. Peter's Rectory, Lowville with Rev. George Murray, Pastor officiating. The couple made their home on N. Mechanic Street. Albert died in 1969.

Mildred worked for Carthage Middle School cafeteria, Hyde Heating and Plumbing in Watertown, and retired from Gormley's Oil and Hardware Store.

She is survived by her three children, two daughters, Cynthia H. Kilburn of Carthage; Marion J. Furletti of Newark; a son, Richard P. (Jeanne) Higman of Pittsburgh, PA; eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her two sisters, Margaret Betrus and Dorothy Hanno Tooker.

Mrs. Higman was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church, was a volunteer for Carthage Area Hospital Auxiliary. She loved playing bridge, and enjoyed reading.

A funeral mass will be said on Thursday, March 27th at 11:00 A.M. at St. James Catholic Church, with Rev. George F. Maroun, Pastor officiating. Spring burial will be in St. James Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, March 26th from 6 to 8 P.M. at Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home.
