Watertown, NY - Nicholas Annis, 99, formerly of Calcium, and Endicott, NY, passed away Friday, July 19, 2013 at the Samaritan Keep Home where he had been a resident for the past two years.
He was born May 12, 1914, in Barnesboro, PA, to Anna and Cosmo Annis. He grew up there and moved to Paterson, NJ, as a young man. He was a proud veteran of World War II serving in the Army in North Africa and Europe. Upon his return he settled in Endicott, NY with his late wife. He worked for Endicott Johnson and gradually built up his own contracting business. He was respected for his expertise and
integrity. He really never retired, and worked well into his 90's. At the age of 91, he relocated to
Calcium, NY to live with his daughter and son in law. He enjoyed his days there doing yard work,
shoveling snow, bird watching, reading, gardening, and picking wild mushrooms.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Carol Annis, Toano, Virginia, a daughter and son in-law, Karen and James Powell of Calcium, NY, a granddaughter and her husband, Nicole and William
Keeney, Richmond, VA, a grandson and his wife, Michael and Natasha Annis, Fairfax, VA, and a
grandson, Stefan Nicholas Powell, his great-grandchildren Cameron and Nathan Annis, and Erin Rose
Keeney. Additionally, he is survived by his sisters and brothers: Rose, Lulu, Grace, Tessie, Blanche, Olivia,Martin (Addie), Joseph (Elenor), Raymond (Faye), many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was
predeceased by his wife of 54 years Rose Grassi Annis, his sisters Mary, Jean, Maggie, and his brothers
James and Frank.
Calling hours at Pucedo Funeral Home, 1905 Watson Blvd., Endicott, NY, will be on Tuesday, July 23rd from 5-7pm. A Funeral mass will be at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Wednesday, July 23rd at 10 am.
